East godavari Lions Centennial Vidya Protsaah Trust
Education: A Path to Transformation and Prosperity While food may satisfy one's hunger, education has the power to transform lives and elevate the status of entire families. An educated society is often regarded as the jewel of the universe. Unfortunately, despite their intelligence and potential, many children in our society are forced to drop out of school due to financial hardships, often becoming child laborers or getting involved in juvenile offenses. To combat this, the "East Godavari Lions Centennial Educational Protsaah" initiative was established to support and encourage students from economically disadvantaged families, ensuring that they have access to education, even when they cannot afford hefty school fees. Every child deserves the opportunity to be inspired by the great legends of our nation—figures like Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar—who rose from humble beginnings to leave an indelible mark on history through their intelligence and determination. These icons serve as powerful role models for children from low-income families, proving that education is the key to overcoming adversity. The seeds for the emergence of the Educational Promotion Trust were sown by the forward-thinking members of the Lions Club of the East Godavari Revenue District. As part of the Lions International Service Federation, which has been a global leader in service for over 100 years, these members have devoted their time, resources, and expertise to various humanitarian causes. In August 2015, the Trust was established with a capital target of Rs 1 crore, beginning with an initial contribution of Rs 1 lakh from each of the 50 founding trustees. Generous donors, including those outside the Lions system, have also contributed substantial sums to this noble cause. The Trust is on track to receive 80G approval from the Income Tax Department, which will allow for tax-exempt donations. The annual interest accrued on the principal amount, calculated as of June 30th each year, is allocated to support the educational needs of deserving students from economically challenged families in the East Godavari district. The assistance provided by the Trust includes covering fees, purchasing books, and fulfilling other educational requirements for students who excel academically and attend public educational institutions. This is a call to action for all those who believe in the transformative power of education. As the esteemed poet Sri Sri once said, "I also invite the world to Samidha." Non-members of the Lions Club are also encouraged to join this great service initiative. Donors will be recognized and honored in due course, as outlined by the Trust's guidelines.
